There are many ways that you can help Miriam's Promise. You may wish to participate in one of our many volunteer opportunities, attend a program tour, or help with one of our fundraising events. We welcome technical assistance from anyone blessed with technological or organizational skills, and we greatly appreciate all donations. Please read below to learn more about how you can help Miriam's Promise continue in ministry to women, children, and families in Middle Tennessee.

If you are interested in volunteering at Miriam's Promise, please contact Polly Irvin at pollyi@miriamspromise.org or Debbie Robinson at drobinson@miriamspromise.org or call Miriam's Promise at (615) 292-3500.

Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteers are an important part of making a non-profit work efficiently. Miriam's Promise has a variety of volunteer opportunities for individuals with different interests and commitments. Opportunities are available for individuals, youth groups, Moms' groups, Women's Circles, and even entire churches.

Babysitting for support groups is another way to volunteer. Approximately 16 ongoing support groups occur each year for adoptive families of older children, trans-racial families, waiting families, and birthparents. Many of these families have very small children who need babysitting services during the monthly support group in which their parents are involved. The children's group, utilizing a babysitter, is held within the same facility and in close proximity to the parents and the Miriam's Promise staff.

Volunteers are also crucial to the success of our special events. See Fundraising Events below to learn how you can help.

Program Tours
The program tours at Miriam's Promise are intended to increase awareness of the ministry of the agency and to develop and strengthen relationships with donors, volunteers, and those providing professional assistance to the agency. Attendees meet the staff counselors, hear stories of our clients, hear the agency's dreams and wishes, and take a tour of Miriam's Promise. These gatherings are less than one hour and are for the purpose of constantly introducing new people to the mission of Miriam's Promise. Attendees are not asked for financial contributions, but only that they remember Miriam's Promise should they know someone in need, or should they have an idea in the future that may help further the agency's mission. Please call (615) 292-3500 today to reserve a spot for an upcoming tour.

Pasta and Promises art show

Fundraising Events
Miriam's Promise holds two major fundraising events each year. In the spring, we have a dinner, art show, and live auction called Pasta and Promises. In the fall, we have a team Golf Challenge. At Pasta and Promises, guests pay for the dinner, and our featured artists sell their works and donate a portion of their proceeds to the agency. For the Golf Challenge, players raise money before the date of the tournament, and then play golf and receive prizes based on how much they raised. Both of these events have been very successful in the past, and we look forward to more success in the future.

Not only do these events need attendees, the events need volunteers to help organize them. Pasta and Promises volunteers would be given the opportunity to serve on the Steering Committee. Duties are aligned with tasks such as logistics, catering, decoration, artist development, silent and live auction, ticket and table sales, and communications. This group meets regularly between January and the event month of May. Volunteers for the annual Golf Challenge would also have the opportunity to serve on the Steering Committee for this event or any one of the numerous sub-committees. Steering Committee members focus on major development tasks such as logistics, communications, special events that occur prior to the Golf Challenge, player development, and golf course relations and negotiations. Sub-committee volunteers can work on pre-events, sponsorship development, prize development, catering, and "day-of-event" needs such as registration, golfer relations, beverage cart drivers, and accounting of contributions and pledges.

Technical Assistance
Miriam's Promise often relies on volunteers who have particular skills beyond those of staff to help us with areas of technology and organizational challenges.

We are currently investigating potential client information systems that can help us track client requests, background information, clients' services, and so forth in a more consistent and reliable manner. We are seeking a lead volunteer who has a knowledge of computer systems or a skill for training and set-up in computer programs.

We would also love to have a volunteer or two who would be willing to be trained to archive closing records. Tennessee State Law requires that all adoption records be precisely structured and then archived with the Tennessee Department of Children's Services—Adoption Unit.

Due to our small staff, one of the areas of expertise needed is for marketing. We would like to update our brochures, website, newsletters, public relations information, and so forth.

Miriam's Promise has been extremely blessed by the generosity of many local churches and civic groups. We regularly receive donations of infant clothing and baby care items for our clothing closet. These items are given to our clients and to other organizations that serve young moms. These gifts must be organized into bins by size, sex, and type so that these items can be easily found by counselors. Volunteers who could do this task are needed on a regular basis.
